Baby Boys are more important than Baby Girls
68...... and of course that statement is unacceptable.
I am responding to the question asked by: Vidaloveslife on Hubpages - which is "why are baby boys preferred more than baby girls?"
It is a pity that in some Countries, parents prefer baby boys to baby girls, but it is only in certain parts of the world. Some muslims (not all) have this mentality, some Africans too (but not all) and some parts of Europe. I have had some of my foreign students – who are mothers, discuss about it openly.
Why are boys preferred?
a) They think it’s no use educating a girl because she would have a husband, family and no time to have a profession.
b) A girl would not be able to carry on the family name.
c) Boys will grow up to be providers of the family.
d) In a nutshell – girls are considered useless.
.
The Women
It’s heart wrenching for a woman to carry a baby for 9 months, go through the pain of delivery, only to feel shame that she gave birth to a beautiful girl. Every baby is a gift from God.
In Europe
In the UK, the medical profession have identified such culture and sometimes do not tell the parents the sex of the child so they do not abort it.
Sexism
I look around the world today and feel total disgust at how some women are treated – In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. In another place – women are not allowed to sing for men to hear (Orthodox Jews) or even sit next to a man unless it’s her hubby.... but surprise surprise women are not banned from cooking food, washing clothes and cleaning the house!!
What message is being passed on to boys who will grow into men and have wives some day?
.
My plea
If you are a parent – be grateful to God or Allah for the miracle of a baby. Some pay £thousands to have fertility treatment and it still doesn’t work.
Every baby is special.

Thank you for writing this. You're right. Every baby is special and deserves to be treated like they matter because they do.
Regardless of our feelings about the injustice of gender preference, in poor countries girls are a liability because of the expense families must incur in providing acceptable
dowries when daughters are married.
I think it is terrible that people don't see that all babies are special and are unique individual human beings and are special in their own way. We are all created equal in the image of God and life is a gift and should be cherished no matter what a person's gender.
it's a long time battle, I guess...but I am still thankful that I am in country that does not restrict me a lot...
Lady E, Wonderful article! Very thought provoking! You have made some EXCELLENT points! I truly believe that each child is unique and can make a marvelous contribution to the world!
I must say that I was raised among all brothers and my parents treated me quite well and encouraged me to excel... We have one daughter and four sons and many grandchildren; I can truly say that each one of them are loved dearly! I think by raising our children to love all people they are better to see and respect others as the unique individuals they are! Yes! As you say "every baby is special!" A wonderful "Miracle!"
Thank You for sharing, In HIS Love, Grace, Joy, Peace & Blessings!
Hello LadyE, hoping the new year is going well. Great article, sadly this mindset continues in some countries. In China of old girls were fed to the pigs, I assume that's history now. The new technology that lets parents either choose gender or see gender during pregnancy is wrong, I applaud UK doctors for not telling parents.
Voted up up up, It's deplorable the way some countries treat baby girls. All babies are precious, no exception!
I believe one has to ask ourselves "WHY"? A Child of God is a Child of God God does not play favorites so why should we?
Hi Lady E , There is an old saying "It takes a man to raise a boy , but it takes a real man to raise a daughter"! I am the proud father of my thirty four year old daughter , I would never have changed anything . She is so much my light!.....as I'm sure you are too!......:-}
So, here's war but I've seen only one comment in disapproval.
My thought on this is that every child is a gift from God just like you said. I'm an only son and I know how it is for parents. They feel this and that must not happen to you. Well, if this and that happens to you (the boy), it's because God allowed that.
A female child is good even if she's going to get married in the future. I do tell people that "if God gives me girls, I'll take that. I don't have to go to war against God."
The problem behind this issue (remote and immediate) is the mindset.
Awesome thought-provoking hub, Elena.
Lady E , I have to tell you this story , I was at my daughters house for a rare visit ,once a year if were lucky, and we were all chatting and she reached over and took my hand in hers and held it like she did at eight or ten , for quite awhile ! I was so moved !....Fathers of such beauty are so lucky !
Brilliant!
I have three sons, and they're all important to me, but they would have been no less important had they been born girls. Children are just children, and they all deserve to be loved and cherished.
Again, brilliant!
This is an important hub. Thanks for SHARING.
Linda.
Thanks so much for writing this! I do a LOT of research on the internet for my writing topics. I uncovered a horrifying video series called "The Dying Rooms" -- about all of the young girls/babies that are abandoned in China.

A group of 3 people smuggled a camera into the orphanages and were able to capture on film what was really happening in these situations.

To anyone who has wished they would have had a baby boy instead of a baby girl, I recommend that you look at the women who have made such a huge contribution to the world and to history. Anyone who still views women as being in a position where their sex and basic "plumbing" determine their ability to contribute to society and the world, should have their head examined!
Wonderful hub,
I have two of each and I could not pick one over the other. You are right children are blessing and if you are so blessed to have a baby..the sex of the baby should not matter..
God bless,
Sunnie
You are right, there some cultures that boys preferred more than girls. In my people for instance they used to like more boys than girl, but that thing changed after the civil war. Girl became more helpful than boys when it comes helping people they left back home. More girls are well educated and got a lot of opportunity when they came to the west. I believe that it doesn’t matter whoever God gives you boy or girl, they are same. Thanks for sharing.

I think boys are more important.
girls are disgusting and crazy.
look what the first girl(eva) done 2 this world!!!
I never understood how anyone can devalue the only sex that is used as a vessel to create life. After all, even the tyrant who leads with a hardened heart and a careless fist was brought into the world thru a vaginal opening. Not even science has been able to adjust the male form to support such a duty.
And if all baby girls ceased to exist the existing proud, more 'valuable' male species would age and return to dust and humanity would cease to exist as a whole. I think that deserves to be respected by all nations.

Very awesome article, I have a daughter and she is the most important aspect of my life, and I truly think she will become really spectacular and important one day.
