Home Robots - Investing in Robots

BP Undersea Robot
What’s a Robot anyway? A robot is an automatically guided machine which is able to do tasks on its own.
Technology is advancing and the use of robots are on the increase in various parts of the World:
- For boring house work. Example: Hoovering or even lawn mowing. These can be quite monotonous.
- Helping the elderly. Example In Japan, there are increasing numbers of elderly people to care for, but fewer young people to care for them.Even though Humans make the best carers, they will have to make do with Robots, which are gradually being introduced.
- Also, Marines can use telerobots to detonate buried explosive devices.
- Space Robots - such devices are deployed in space or on planetary surfaces to emulate human manipulation capabilities.
- Inaccessible Tasks – e.g With the BP oil situation. Only recently July 2010, Undersea Robots were used to replace the Cap over the gushing BP oil well.
.
- Robots used for Surgery - Medical Robots are now used in various surgeries. E,g Heart surgery, keyhole surgery etc. In UK, there is The 'Da Vinci Robot' which is mainly used to carry out prostatectomies (removal of all or part of the prostate), tumour removals, gastro and neurological operations. Its robotic arms rotate 360 degrees allowing surgeons more precision than they would have using their own hands. Robot used in Heart Surgery

Me? I’m not asking for much. I just want a Robot to do the following.
- Hoover the house – once a week.
- Iron without setting the smoke alarm off.
- I’ll deal with the dishes incase it breaks one a day, but it would be nice if it could take the refuse out daily.
- I would ask it to do my hair but it might mistakenly give me a knock on the head, so pass on that.
- Cook food, especially when I have friends round. All we need to say is the name of the Dish. E.g “Fish and Chips” and it would be ready in under an hour.
- Drive me to work? I’m giving that second thoughts – incase we end up getting a speeding ticket every day.
So, that’s my short list. How about you, would you like the “luxury” of having a Robot?

Yes, Robot is everywhere for every works. Japan and South Korea is the master in creating Robot. But anyway Robot is a machine of elections who is made by the human beings. The working through microscopic particle is always superfine in micro level which is beyond the reach of a physical person but even then a machine can’t be superior than man because after all Robot is man made. It is a great hub.
Do you think robot can write the hub? ha.
Thanks for info.
Interesting topic.Robot used for Surgery is very promising aspects of robot technology. But if machines start doing all the work who will give me a job,for the time being I need a robot who can build back links for my hubs,in a natural way. Thanks Elena :)
Technology is indeed fast moving. I wouldnt be surprised if robots replace human beings one day.
Lady E, Nice creative hub! Really provokes thought! As Philipo said "Technology is indeed moving fast." But no one can build anything better than man which God has created! No matter how hard they try. Of course I think they can motivate each of us to improve! Few if any of us function to maximum capactity. They certainly could assist us with many tasks... I could use a robot to answer all my facebook messages? lol
Thank you for sharing, In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!
I would like a robot to do yard work: cut the grass, trim trees and hedges, etc. That is the biggest time-waster for me. Perhaps robots could mop the floors and, if the basement is leaking, wet-vac it. And, you are correct, taking out the trash would be huge.
I saw a television show that discussed robots used as soldiers. They are trying to make robots that can duplicate human movement as perfectly as possible to climb steps, walk on uneven terrain, etc. I had mixed feelings about seeing technology used in this way, as it seemed a step closer to the Terminator movies, but it was fascinating, nonetheless. For now, I will settle for a robot to get the trash out on Tuesdays.
Thanks for the interesting read, Elena.

I truly believe more and more robots are going to be utilized in warfare. Pretty soon planes will not need pilots, they will become a thing of the past. Robotics are here to stay, move over humans. Kinda scary in a way don't ya think:o))
Robots will usher in a new era of mechanism but I suppose the sublime tranquility of the world would be over. I support their use in warfare but no where else.
However, I shudder to think on what might happen if the robots develope a snag during the course of a surgery or during a pilotless flight!! Isnt it very bone-chilling?!
Elena, thanks for the nice hub!! :)
I think we all need a robot for SOMETHING. I need a robot to go to classes for me on days that I'm not up to it. Or a robot to stay with my puppy and wait for her to "go potty." Haha.
Interesting Hub!
Very cool - we do have the Roomba at home and it is great - though the dogs aren't so thrilled with it.
Hello Lady_E
Lovely thing to have, but let me know if they are reliable enough and will not run away with my flowers while I am on tour with my wife, though they seem to be trust worthy as you have written so nice things about them.
Sound fantastic to me, I'll take one of everything! :) Great review on whats up and coming in the Home Robot Products.
OMG!! Although the video was interesting, the above pic looks really scary. I think I would prefer the 'real hands of a medical surgeon.'
Don't think I would want one around my house that looks like the ones in the above pics. The one in the 'future kitchen looks pretty much 'safe.' The one with big brother looks terrifyingly huge. no way. Too 'in the way.' And not very pleasant to look at. And what if it gets out of control, OMG, talk about a Twilight Zone episode.
I do however, like the idea of them to help the elderly, although the need for 'human help' can still be seen and I think highly necessary as well as in surgeries.
Thanks for the update on the oil spill, did not know they put robots into the bottom of the ocean to help clean up the spill. Good, I think, hope they help.
At this point, I think I'll have the hoover and lawn mower robots and one to shovel the snow...maybe.
Voted-up/rated.
Lady E, Robotics are the future. And, I have mixed feelings about it. Sure, its use in medicine, warfare and industrially makes sense. But, Hoovering [I love that word! > in the US, we vacuum :)] or cooking? What's next, a robot who exercises for you, then electronically transfers the calories burned to your waistline? Can it go too far? As always, great Hub, all the best, Ciao. :)
that Big Brother robot looks a little dangerous lol.
A dream seems to become reality to some axtent. Thank you for your well written hub.
I don't think I'm ready for a household robot just yet. maybe one that would mow my (large) lawn -- takes me three days!
As one poster commented: Man is made by God, and robots are made by man, so robots can never be better than man. Maybe not better. But man does sometimes do some strange things in the interest of improving our situation. Like nuclear weapons. These started out as theoretical alternative power sources, then the military decided they could be weaponized. Now we have a way to wipe ourselves out.
If the wrong people do wrong things with robots, they too could be a threat. At the end of my third article on robots is a video that offers some chilling, but very real, possibilities.
Elena, talking about robots made me smile. You see in S.A. we call the traffic lights, robots.
Giving directions to a visiting foreigner, always turns out to have them with a very puzzled look on their faces.
They wil interrupt with: Excuse me, you keep on talking about the robots, what the heck is that?
We keep on forgetting that we are most probably the only people in the world that call a "ROBOT" a "ROBOT". Suppose we do not need much more than that here, ha ha!
Having a robot for every little kid so no one ever messes with them would have to be my first choice. Save the children, save the world. Very cool hub Lady_E!
Space robots make me think of Kelsoe from 'that 70's show' a sit-com here in the USA. Thank you for the read!
This is the future and we have nothing to do about it. The hub made me to remember about movie "Artificial Intelligence" directed by Steven Spielberg, a very touching story about a highly advanced robotic boy who wanted to become "real".
LadyE, thanks for sharing another piece of great work with us!
I need a robot to do certain things, say, sweep the house, wash the dishes (won't mind if it breaks one every now and then, because I'll get to replace it), clothes, etc. and leave certain things, say, leave my writing talent to me because it ain't got the talents God gave to me (...lol...), cooking aspect, going to the markets and stuffs like that....
Real nice and enlightening hub...
Ciao!
Kk... will be expecting it at Xmas...
Make sure it gets to me, k?
This is so cool. If I do have a home robot, it will need to help me clear away the clutter in my place.:) I'd so need its help. Great hub here.
