My Love Affair with India
77Taj Mahal in India
I have always been fascinated with India and the people of India since I began to watch Indian films as a Teen. They have such a rich culture. I have some Indian friends and also have the privilege of meeting a lot of Indians in my profession. I am not going to write about India as a Country, I am just going to write about how it fascinates me.
The people
The people of India are genuinely friendly, warm and generous. They are very humble people, particularly the women. They have good family values; up to now as much as we have lots of teen pregnancies in the UK, I've never seen an Indian Teen pregnant unless she was married. Having said that, the Teens and young ones are now getting westernised.
The Films
The first Indian film I watched was Dos Numbri (number ten) with my mum in the 1980s. I still watch Indian films now, provided they are subtitled in English. I find the story lines very interesting. There’s always a twist. Most of the time they are romantic stories and there is always a lot of dancing and singing in the films which makes the film about 3 – 4 hours long. I have watched so many, I can’t write them all, but so far the one I like best is Fanaa – no one could ever predict the end of that film and I still have the soundtrack of it on my mobile even though I watched it about 2 years ago.
Amitabh Bachchan
My favourite Actor is Amitabh Bachchan. He is a well-respected man and the older he gets the more handsome and trendier he looks. Tall and elegant. Look at his Photo. Am I right or am I right? My favourite Actress is the stunning Rani Mukherjee – very talented. (below)

The Dancing
I love the traditional dancing which can be seen in Indian films or Indian Music Channels on Satellite channels. I mimic the dances when no one is looking.
Family orientated
Indians have close-knit families. Sometimes the parents arrange marriages for their children but what I particularly like is the way they all support each other in Love. Example, in London there are certain nationalities, that if a member of their family just moved to the UK, they don’t like to help. They would rather let them suffer because they also found it hard, but Indians will pull together and ensure the person has a job (which for starters could be in an Indian shop) and the person is well settled.
Taj Mahal
I haven’t been to India yet but one of the places I would love to visit first is the Taj Mahal. It was built by Shah Jahan who was popularly known as Prince Khurram. He dedicated it to his wife Arjumand who died while having their 14th child. It is believed that in her last breath she secured a promise from Shah Jahan that he would build the most beautiful monument in her memory. Taj Mahal Facts
The Fashion
Indian fashion is exquisite. Very colourful and elegantly worn. My friend always brings me back a nice top whenever she goes to India for a holiday. See Slide show below for some Indian Fashion. Ding dong!
So, now you see why I love India. I hope one day I travel there. Hopefully, when my friend Rumela gets married, as she will be having the ceremony in India.

I've never seen an Indian movie, because here in the states I don't know how to find them, however you've sparked my interest, so much so that I would like to watch one. I really did love your hub. Thanks for sharing, and please continue. I look forward to your hub on Nigeria.
I soooooo agree with you!
No matter where I live or travel in the world - it is always the people of India who greet me - who smile, who include me in their group, who say hello when getting on the elevator or a tour bus or coming into a restaurant. Always!
Love Bollywood too!
Thanks for the tribute to the people of India! It is so deserved.
I used to watch Indian movies too and as a kid and with Thai subtitles, in spite of the fact that I'm Lao! I can still hear the music and envision the dancing to this day. Slumdog Millionaire reminded me of my past as an avid and inadvertent fan of Indian film! Yes, among all of the countless actors, I remember Amitabh most! The guy's got a little salt and pepper but still looks the same!
Great Hub, Lady_E! I really enjoyed it.
The closest I've been to India was the UAE. It looks like an interesting place to visit. I do have a problem the really has nothing to do with the Indian people. Since so many American companies outsourced jobs to India it makes me feel a little resentful. I try to direct that resentment where it belongs.
I was in India for a few years for my education purpose.I love its countryside ,its culture and the diversity of language(more than 800 spoken language. The most interesting part of India is that there I find lots of palaces and forts built on few hundred years back, yet in very good condition.
Indians have a lot in common with Africans. Love them, too. My favorite Indian movie is DON. You should check it out, if you haven't, babe. :)
Lady-E - there is really something great about the Indians. I was actually contemplating on what to write about them before I saw this hub. Thanks a lot. May be I will write on Indian economy or something.
Lady_E,
I too share your love for the people of India. I also adore the way that their women like to dress so beautifully in such rich colorful exciting colors and yet still seem so comfortable.
One of our consultants was from India. I learned that they are loyal people and family means a lot to them.
I have enjoyed several of their movies as well!
Blessings
There are T.V+ radio stations on the Island where I live, built to broadcast India's culture, music and movies 24hrs a day,I must admit it's very entertaining when cable t.v has nothing but reruns!Cheers!

Nicely written article.. You can check more bollywood stuff on my hub !
Good blog, i used to love Bollywood movies, but i don't now because i think they are not like they used to be, and i would say about 2 a year are good quality wathcable movies come out. I would recommend anyone to watch 'Kabhi kushi kabhi gham', 'Chalte Chalte', 'Love aaj kaal', 'Sholay', 'Swades' (these are the best!) and many more!

Lady_E: Wow!! Your interest about India is amazing!! You are most welcome here and I am sure you will go back with a big baggage of not only curry powders and spices but clothes, dresses, bangles, trinklets etc etc. Mind you that there is a speciality sari in every nook and corner of India so it can be a whole lot .. Shukria!!
I was just wondering if you have had the opportunity to attend an Indian wedding ceremony? It is truly a beautiful happening. My wife and I have some Indian friends and allowed us to view a DVD of their son's wedding from a few years ago. Even though we were not there in person, it was easy to see the effort and care in putting it all together. It is a memorable event and even a bit of a tear jerker. Great hub regarding some wonderful people.
Hey.. great to know that you love India so much! I have a similar sort of fascination and craze on UK.I pray to do my postgraduation somewhere there...
And be sure u make a visit to TajMahal once!
India is very beautiful. I loved seeing the Taj Mahal and the history, built because his dying wife requested it, how romantic! Thank you for showing us the beauty in other parts of the world.
Cheers
Why do you mimic their dance style when no one is watching? I'll catch you someday:-p
By the way, I also want to go to India - the land of IT - to meet with techie minded people like me. :-D
Warmest regards,
Royalmark.

About 6 months ago sometime I couldn't sleep and turned on the telly in the middle of the night.... there was some bollywood movie on with subtitles. I sat and watched the whole thing for about 3 hours, and loved every minute. It was the most colourful and lively film I have ever seen - hugely entertaining, and without any violence, sex or drugs. Nothing but a sincere love story. Loads of singing, loads of dancing, beautiful women... I am gutted that I cannot remember what that film is called, as I would buy it, but I would certainly be open to finding a few more like that to watch. Bollywood is great!
