My Top 10 Dancers
76I love music and enjoy watching music videos. Years ago, I used to record my favourite ones when they were aired on MTV on video. For me a good dancer is: Someone you watch and you just can’t take your eyes off them. People who move in a magical way to the rhythm of the beat. The artists/dancers below are just my compilation and in no particular order.
.
Also, I would like to give credit to the people who choreograph dances for these artists. Michael Jackson’sThirller was actually choreographed by Michael Peters. Michael Jackson had to learn the dance moves, but thousands don’t remember that. (but ofcourse MJ is a naturally gifted dancer)
So without much further ado - Ladies First.
.
1) Shakira
Well, Shakira’s hips don’t lie. Sometimes I wonder if her bones are made of plastic. She is so flexible and moves in a way that many ladies can’t. Well, I certainly can’t. She is a captivating Dancer.
My favourite Dance Video: Hips don’t lie
.
2) Jennifer Lopez
Jenny from the Block. We haven’t seen her a lot in action since she had the twins but she can sure dance.
Jennifer Lopez actually used to be a back dancer for Janet Jackson. You will notice her in the Janet Jacksons musical video 'That's the Way Love Goes'.
My Favourite Dance video: Love don’t cost a thing.

3) Usher
OMG - What a guy... There are a lot of African American boys who started in Music and didn’t make it past 5 years but I admire Usher for the fact that he is still doing well in the music industry and he is coming up with better songs all the time. I notice a lot of Michael Jackson dance moves in his moves and he is very entertaining to watch.
My favourite Dance Video: Caught Up
4) Beyonce
Bootlylicious Beyonce – is another very gifted entertaining artist. She has got to the point where every one now copies her dance moves – as young as the age of eight. "Sasha" is Beyonce's alter ego. She said when she starts performing, Sasha completely takes over.
Favourite Dance Video – Naughty Girl (featuring Usher)
.
5) Tina Turner
Simply the best. I could tell you I’m very tired but if her song came on the tiredness would miraculously disappear and I'd be up dancing. She sings and it’s hard to take your eyes off her while she’s on stage and those long legs - Mama Mia!! Tina is 68 in the photo below - still rocking.
Favourite Dance Video: – Simply the Best
6) John Travolta
You can tell just by the way he walks that he is a dancer. Also, watch him in the film Grease. A smooth mover. Lucky guy - In 1985, he danced with Princess Diana at a White House dinner.
Favourite Dance Video: - Twist dance contest in Pulp Fiction, with urma Thurman.
.
7) Ciara
Ciara is in a league of her own. She dances even better than Beyonce but she’s tall which probably helps too. Ciara is one of the naughtiest dancers I have seen. Sometimes, my jaw drops when I see her musical videos.
Favourite Dance Video: – Work - Feat. Missy Elliot (not for young kids)
.
8) Michael Jackson
The smooth moonwalker – God spent more time on his feet/legs the day he was created. His dance moves are mesmerising, no wonder all the ladies scream. His sister Janet Jackson is a good dancer too.
For those who've always wondered how it was done in the Smooth Criminal video on the right - the leaning shoes with Patent number 5255452 were filed in 1992 and allowed Michael Jackson and his dancers to lean at 45-degree angles during live performances of the song. Not to be tried at home.
My favourite Dance Video: Do you remember the time? Featuring Iman and Eddie Murphy.
.
9) Justin Timberlake
He’s got dance moves that make some girls want to cry him a river. I’m glad he left N Sync (boy band). It gave him a good opportunity to showcase his talent as a brilliant dancer and entertainer.
Favourite Dance Video: – 4 minutes, featuring Madonna.
.
10) Madonna
The material Lady can still strike the pose. She is a very good dancer and even the younger generation find her cool. (p/s don’t feel old Madonna). I read in the people magazine that Madonna was once addicted to yoga and practiced seven days a week. No wonder she is so flexible. Its also kept her body nicely toned.
My favourite Dance Video: Vogue.
.
So, if you want to get me on the dance floor, all you need to do is play a tune for any of the above artists and I'll show you I've got Twinkle Toes. ٩(•̮̮̃•̃)۶

You picked some great ones!
Elena, MJ's thriller happened when we were teenagers and the craze was unbelievable!! I remember that one of my friend picked up the steps very well!! As for Shakira, she should compete in gymnastics as well!!
Wonderful hub that soothed us up amidst the daily grind!!
Cheers!! :)
These folks are all awesome dancers, and I have to especially give credit to folks of my "generation" like Madonna, Michael Jackson and John Travolta. In fact, I want to give special notice to John Travolta. In the Unites States, Travolta started two separate dance crazes with the movies "Saturday Night Fever" and "Urban Cowboy." Disco became cool in large part because Travolta was cool, and his dancing in SNF was amazing. He revitalized night life in cowboy/country/western clubs and bars across the country with his graceful moves in Urban Cowboy. Not only was everyone line dancing, everyone wanted to ride the mechanical bull.
Thanks for a great list, Elena!

Lady E..I think you chose very well especially for the 20th and 21st century. I would have to say John Travolta and Michael Jackson were certainly the leaders of the male pack for what they contributed to dance form. Madonna and Jennifer Lopez started the HEAT craze for the ladies.
Now going back to the 19th century I would give the Oscar to Fred Estaire and Ginger Rogers as team dancers and Gene Kelly for all that jazz, he was so smooth.
I love all of them, but esp. Tina and Michael. I want Tina,s legs, lol
A great hub, Thank you
Cheers
Ok I have only watched Michael Jackson, Usher and Shakira though I do love dancing Lady E - the freedom of movement, the rhythm, the timings, it's all rivetting to watch done by the 'greats' - I think MJ is astonishing (esp when I first saw his 'Moonwalk' back in the day - I was literally 'jaw-dropped', thinking he was from another planet- so your point about who taught him is very well made) - I will watch the others especially Ciara!! but I think Usher is ultra 'cool' even though I prefer watching Shakira - no idea why!!!
Thanks again Lady E - another absorbing and very different hub.
Great choices. Jennifer Lopez is a wonderful dancer and choreographer. All these artists are terrific. Thanks for this enjoyable Hub.
Hi Lady E, One more teriffic Hub. All of those dancer are awesome. I can't just choose one because I like them all. Great work as usual and thanks for sharing with us.
This is a fun hub!! Love to watch the great dancers and you have chosen the best. Of course, MJ will always be my fav!! And Usher admired MJ, so no wonder a lot of his moves remind us of MJ. I must admit like saddlerider1, I still love watching Fred Astaire(of whom MJ admired and emulated), Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly and will watch a Fred Astaire movie in a hearbeat to see him dance(smooth)!! Voted/rated!!
Interesting - I just saw the winner of "So You Think You can Dance" on Regis and Kelly yesterday. My favorites are Jennifer Lopez, Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. Thanks for this fun hub!
There is just no beating Tina Turner in my book! Magical moves and spirit, so resiliant, you know? I enjoyed this hub very much. Thank you for taking on the task. Always a great read with your hubs!

Ohhhhhh John Travolta isn't he just the most beautiful soul. Michael Jackson is one of the best entertainment icons of our century and I have always enjoyed his music. Great hub and choices!!! :-0
Lady_E - This is a great hub. Michael Jackson has always been my man any time any day. Sometimes, i wonder if it is just talent or he is not human. So much talents.
Congratulations on touching 100 once again today!! All the best!! Cheers!! :)
I can jitterbug pretty good ! :)
Shakira is unvelieveable, not sure J-lo should be two though!
I admired John Travolta in"Pulp Fiction"very memorable...Paula Abdul has a pretty high profile as a dancer and choreographer that I've admired also;)
I agree with your top ten! As a retired pro dancer I love watching great dancers, it really brings me back.
Great hub I like it. my favorite is Shakira.
They are all such great and professional dancers which makes impossible for me to put a rating .
Michael Jackson is so cool!!!
:)
enjoyed visiting your site - great work - awesome
Dancing is a great quality of a person. This entire dancer deserves high degree of appreciation.
If I must be the weakest link in the chain of dancers, the chain will be permanently broken! lol
Watching this people dance, makes my jaws drop open in amazement. I would not attempt to do that moves. I do not have a medical aid!
Great hub Elena, I loved your choices.
Great hub and great dancers and entertainers. Very nice pictures of the stars. God Bless You.
Hi, Elena. I enjoyed your comment about my "dance moves." If enthusiasm counts for anything, then I'm in the game. If it is about skill or grace, then.......... oh, well....
I enjoyed your comment. Thanks.
Mike
Lady E, Nice hub! I am inspired by Tina Turner... I think she displays it is good to be the "best you!" at whatever age you are... No doubt dancing keeps you physically fit... As you say "Mama Mia" I think I will start dancing privately of course lol! Thank you for sharing, In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!
