Using FREE Websites to make Money Online

FREE Websites are sub domains and can be used for various purposes. (subdomains means it doesn’t have the www. It would start with http://yourwebsite.theirdomain.com. However, it can always be upgraded to a domain when you are ready, at the cost of about $20 - $30, then it becomes http://www.yourwebsite.com (your website now being the domain).
FREE websites can be used for:
- Selling products / services.
- As a Personal web page.
- Marketing a New book.
- Blogging etc
- Charity Purposes - Raising money for a good cause.
- and even Backlinks.
They are very easy to create, (drag and drop) requires no technical skills, and you also have lots of designs to choose from. It could take maybe about 2 – 3 hours depending on how much content you have. Once you are happy with it, click the publish button and you have your own website. The link is referred to as a URL. (uniform resource locator) -The internet address of your website.

You can earn money from FREE Websites in the following ways:
1) Adding Google Adsense to it - Google displays relevant Ads on your page and you earn money when visitors to your site click on them. For more details and to sign up, go to Google/Adsense. Costs nothing to sign up.
2) Adding an Amazon Widget to it. For this, you will need to sign up with Amazon. See example below. Choose products that are related to your website. Amazon will pay you a commission. Again it costs nothing to sign up.

3) Use Paypal to Add a Buy Button or Shopping Cart to your website – so you can sell and accept payments online. Please note that Paypal take a commission of 33p from every £1, so bear this in mind when pricing your products and services.
If you don’t have a Paypal account, sign up for an account at Paypal.com. It’s easy to set up and you start with a Premier Account. Your bank account will be verified. After verification, upgrade to Merchant Account by the click of a button and you are ready to sell on line.
It Can also be used for Charity Purposes. e.g if you are running a Marathon, or have a charitable cause. Create the website and add a Paypal Donation button to it.
From the Paypal Page below, you will notice it has:
- Buy Now Button
- Add to Cart Button
- Subscribe Button
- Donate Button
Select the appropriate Button for your website and follow instructions. It will give you a html code to copy and paste onto your website and you wll have something like the inset above, showing credit card signs, prompting payment.

(4) Getting Traffic by Submitting url Search Engines
The next step would be to get traffic (visitors) to your website, which you can do by using search Engines. This will increase traffic to your site and as you know, the more people who visit, the more earnings you have.
Google is the leading used search engine 65%. To submit your site Click on instructions
Yahoo is second with 20 %
MSN third with 7% (which is highly ranked)
Its also worth submitting with Jayde and Scrub the Web. There are many Search Engines out there, so read their terms and conditions before you use them.
Other ways to get traffic, could be putting the website on business cards and Inserting it in Auto-signature at the end of your emails, as well as informing friends and families.

5) Affiliates
Also, you can be an Affiliate for companies. Example, if you like a mobile company, you could apply to be an Affiliate, which means their Ads will be shown on your website and you will earn a commission on anything bought. Thanks Lade E - One website that I would add is Wordpress.com as Google loves the Wordpress layout and Googleblog.blogspot.com (Weebly also uses wordpress if memory serves me right). This is a great way to get backlinks to your hubpages as well. Post an article on one of these sites or blogs and link it back to your hub.

a) Always go for the well know companies. E.g Yola and Wordpress are very well known and would inform you if any changes were to be made.
b) Have a copy of your Website content incase you need to set it up again somewhere else.
c) Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Use a few. You don't have to have 3 websites with one company.
d) Once you start making a lot of money from it, upgrade it to your own domain (mentioned at beginning of Hub). It's about $20 - $30 a year. The content will remain the same.

If you sign up with a co.uk, then your extension will definitely be a co.uk and if it's a .com, it'll end with a .com because you are under their domain.

Some good info here but there is a small error right at the beginning.
The "www" prefix has nothing to do with whether a site is free or not. These days it's purely an optional thing - if you use Google Webmaster tools, you'll find there's a section where you can choose which you prefer (e.g. for my site, I've chosen to use http://bellydanceoz.com rather than http://www.bellydanceoz.com).
Usually, the difference between your own domain and a free sub-domain is that the URL includes the site name, i.e. instead of yourname.com you'll get yourname.freewebs.com or yourname.blogspot.com. Most of them will let you buy your own domain name, and then all you're really getting is free hosting.

What intrigues me is people making tons of money online this way and telling others 'How to', somehow when it comes to me making money with all these techniques around I still end up paying more rather than earning anything decent.

Carolangelica, I wrote a Hub on that exact subject. Anyone who claims to make "tons of money" is usually lying. It is possible to make a living online but it's a full-time job like any other job - you have to work hard, and you need to put in the study to learn how to do the job properly.

** Marisa, I notice you have upgraded your site, so it's now a .com with no extension. I have visited lots of FREE websites and none of them start you off with a www but, they do ask you to upgrade and then indicate what your website name would like - this now includes the www.

** Carol - There are people who have put in a lot of effort and are actually earning a very reasonable amount on line. We even have such Writers like that on HP who make their living out of Writing, but they don't just write for HP. I personally think, making money on line can be a supplementary income.
This Hub is just to make people utilize FREE websites. Some have Free websites and don't have a clue about adsense/amazon and how it could help them bring in a little bit a month. Some don't even know that FREE websites accept paypal and Some are trying to find ways and can't afford a website. (I found this out by visiting Q & A sites in the internet) So, if earning on line seems like it's not cut out for you, maybe you could try another way. Thanks for stopping.
