What’s really behind a Smile?
They say: “You are not fully dressed until you wear a smile.” I smile most of the time, people know that about me. What they don’t know is my smile covers a lot and I have different types of smiles.
- Like everyone, I smile when meeting people for the first time. If I’m teaching a new class I smile to hide my nerves up to break-time.

- I smile when I play with my friends kids and give an encouraging smile when they draw me with a big head and legs like twigs.

- I smile politely and nod my head even when I haven’t got a clue what the conversation is about, but atleast they know I gave a listening ear, "without a shadow of doubt.”

- If my eyes look straight into the eyes of a stranger, I give a quick smile and slowly look away. If I eat out and dislike the food, I give an appreciative smile when asked if the food is okay.

- I smile while talking on the phone, it can be heard in my voice. I smile professionally when someone aggravates me at work but would gladly tell them off, given the choice.

- As a Teen, my biggest smile was for Dad (still is) as I told him I loved him - "the best dad in the world Indeed", he’d respond with a funny, fake smile and ask me: “So, how much do you need?"

- I smile with Embarrassment each time I’m given a gift. I also smile when I read comments on Hubs, they are nice to read and uplift.

What have I learnt?
- A smile can turn a "No" into a "Yes".
- Makes people feel at ease with you.
- If you smile at someone, they will smile back at you – unless they are weird and they think you are weird too, for smiling at them in the first place. Ha!

Hi. I smile when I want the other person to like me. I smile to show I can be trusted not to harm anyone present. I smile when someone is in anger at me and then I speak to the underlying need they are expressing. Lots of people smile to make it a better world believing it is uplifting to us all. There have been lots of things written about the smile. All of it is good.
I, like you, smile for many reasons...mostly because I am happy, but sometimes to hide the wrinkles - that were put there by smiling in the first place.. keep smiling and no one will notice them LOL
A smile always make the world look brighter and also you yourself feel better.

People tell me I smile all the time. My librarian at my college last year used to get annoyed with me when I walked in every morning. He would ask, "Why are you always so cheerful this early?" I'm not a morning person either but I'm a smiley person.

Smiles are powerful. It's amazing that when you smile your voice changes (such as your example when you are on the phone (you smile and there's an uplift in your voice). Smiles can hide a lot of things, so if a person can smile (even when sad) it can change your world. Voted-up/rated.

This was awesome! This sounds like a hub I would have come up with. I smile all the time, I'm even smiling right now! Not only is smiling at others a good thing, one of the reasons I smile so much is because it makes me feel good.
I have heard this is a proven fact and it does work for me. I have heard that when you smile, your subconscious gets the feeling of happiness or something pleasant because that's what it associates a smile with, a good feeling of happiness.
I will tell you another silly thing that seems to be true and that is that laughter is another thing that makes the mind and body have a good feeling. If you can make yourself smile and laugh even for no reason, you will find yourself feeling better and feeling good almost instantaneously. This was a wonderful topic.
