Writing Online – Who wants to make money online now?

There are thousands of people who write online today. Some for pleasure, some for an extra income and some to help others etc.
For those who write to earn extra cash – I have observed that most expect to earn money immediately. I was one of those people. When I signed up with Hubpages in May 2009, I checked my Adsense account every couple of hours to see how many hundreds of pounds had been made with my 5 Hubs or so, but it was just a few pence.
So, can someone who is just starting to write online make money - immediately?

a) The Good News
You can and will definitely make money online – but, don’t expect it to happen now or "yesterday".
In preparation, ensure you have a Paypal account as most sites pay this way. For some sites like Hubpages, Shetoldme, Xomba etc you would need an Adsense Account which will generate your earnings. Sign up: wwww.google.com/adsense.

b) The Action News
- Put in the work now. Be consistent in writing articles.
- Get Traffic to them. Visit other Hubs/articles - don't be a lone ranger onsite. Use Backlinks. Helpful Article (More useful Articles below)
- Be Patient (at least give it some weeks). It's funny, I have noticed the times I don’t check my adsense is the time it earns a lot. It doesn’t like me checking it everytime.
- In the interim, read / find useful info to help you. No matter how good a person is, there is always room for improvement. There is so much useful information on Hubpages - simply make use of the search button and type in what you are looking for.

c) The Cashing in News
After a while – maybe months you should start making some money. You may even get to the point where you are no longer writing Articles or just writing 2 or 3 a month, but a reasonable amount is still being generated from what you’ve already written. You could decide to put your feet up then or continue and build a Passive income.
** It is also a good idea to write for more than one site or have your own Blog by the side, just incase one website does something that could affect your articles or they have a problem which means certain features are not working temporarily on the site.
In a nutshell, you can make money online, there are genuine websites but you have to plant (write) water (get traffic) and wait for it to yield ($£).

The information is not only useful but comforting
Hi, Elena! Adsense doesn't like me checking it, either! It also doesn't like me quoting it. I told a friend once how much I was waking on Adsense, and it seemed the earnings halved themselves as soon as I said it. So, I check it as infrequently as I can stand, and I never talk with friends about it!
Recommending we read is such sound advice. We learn about Adsense, about web page design and more importantly, about writing when we read. To some degree it doesn't even matter what we read! Reading anything helps, at least a little.

Nicely put. I do had the same problem with myself, I've checked my adsense account to often, wasting my time browsing instead of writing. Though I saw improvements of page impressions after the articles grow in age. After all it takes some time for the search engines to find a fresh article and put it in his index.

It's really takes time to see some real cash flow with little traffic.For the time being I am trying to build backlinks for my hubs and also revamping hubs such as changing title or even changing URL helps to increase traffic.Initially,I made lots of mistake in choosing the right keywords, everyday I am learning how to write better..hope some day I will be able to write like you.What I love the most is reading the feedback from hubbers, there are some real serious readers who really read every piece of information you present to them.Without joining hubpages I could never meet people with diverse cultural background.thank you Elena :)

I would love to make money writing hubs, but so far, I've earned less than a dollar. I don't think I understand the marketing aspect, but thanks for your suggestions.

There's nothing to it. It's just getting your Hubs out there. Hubpages helps with traffic but you can do some extra. E.g backlinks with Redgage and Xomba. Using Twitter, FaceBook. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Regards, E.

If a person is willing to work at it, significant income can be made online. It does take time, as all real undertakings do but for those willing to learn the ropes, online income is attainable.
As you've touched on, it is a good idea to work a number of opportunities, so that you have multiple income streams.
Whether it be through writing articles, blogging or creating websites, the income potential is there.

Being new and having so far to go before getting any financial reward reminds me how important it is to keep plugging away and to provide useful, quality content as I go. This allows me to benefit in the long run when the money does come in and it (hopefully) allows readers to benefit from reading better hubs because I am in it for the long haul and not just seeking the quick, easy money. The right mindset should keep us focused on doing what is best for all.

Nice hub, I used to have a blog long time ago, but I had no purpose of making money on it (then), it was only for private pleasure and learning what "ticks of" people, in the sense to get response, I liked it. But unfortunately my time to continue back then (4-5 years ago) was limited due to very much work. But I'm back again, but now I'm to grown up to start ticking people of, but I might put up something for the fun of it, someday ;)

Nice hub - I like your last quote - you have to enjoy it. I think some people expect instant riches in writing - it is a slog and far from instant riches. If you don't enjoy writing I think it is curtains.

When I first got on the block writing for not only hubpages but other get paid to write sites as well, I was already planning on how I'll go on a yatch ride all from the money I'll be earning from adsense and other affiliate networks, but lo the clicks where not coming, and I was busy with other projects. But looking back now, I've come to realize my mistakes and oversights. Thanks for this piece.

Great hub Lady_E. Ironically I've just begun to make money everyday, sometimes it's just cents, other days it is a few dollars. Mind you I've been on HubPages since May, 2009, and received only one check since beginning to write. However I'm due to finally receive my second one, which took almost a year. So one can take heart, it does take time.

Great Hub and what an impressive following you have. I have been writing online a couple of years now, although my work is mainly seen on my websites. Following recent Google updates I have realised that getting an authorship profile and a following of real people as opposed to just search engine traffic is the way forward, so I hope to follow the same path as you on here. I have to resist the urge to be an adsense stalker. It is terrible to be excited and log in to $0.00! There is so much great info on Hubspace, I don't ever think I could read it all. My goal is to learn a few new things each day! It is Hubbers like you who give me hope!

As far as Adsense not doing well if you check it a lot, there is a saying in America-- a watched pot never boils. Of course it is not true. But it is saying that time flies when you are having fun and moves slowly when you are feeling bad. A baby learns to walk by falling down a lot. So if a person checks it a lot, he will learn what he needs to learn by doing it. That is how you learned!
